Dita Von Teese Launches 4th Fragrance “Erotique”

Erotique opens with a big huff of peppery, spicy woods, with an aura of rose. The scent reminds me of some of the real hippie sandalwood oils I used to get long ago that are pretty much gone from the scent landscape. One thing I really love about Erotique is that it straddles that very fine line between sexy and sweaty; I get just enough sweat to make it really alluring, while the leather just makes it all smell like someone earthy and amazing wearing great perfume and a good leather jacket (or corset, as the case may be). As the fragrance dries down, it holds ever-closer to the skin in a beguiling way. I keep sniffing and sighing. The longevity is quite good, and it has sneaky, sweet sillage: just when you think it’s gone you find yourself in a bit of your own scent trail.
Though the rest of us may never wear jeweled corsets and red-soled pointe shoes like Dita Von Teese, the burlesque superstar is hoping to share a bit of her experience with the world, bringing her fragrance and lingerie collections to HSN March 17.
“I’m a bit of a fragrance and lingerie snob,” Von Teese tells PEOPLE of her decision to market her lines to a wider audience on HSN. “Every woman should have luxury in her everyday life.”
And who knows fine undergarments better than someone who spends most of her working hours in gorgeous custom corsets? “The majority of lingerie that’s not my own that’s in my lingerie drawer is pretty expensive,” she says. “My goal is to make bras and panties that stand up to the ones I spend over $100 on.”
That includes fancy trims, lots of black lace and elegant garter belts. “My line isn’t the one to look for a white cotton bra,” she says. But that doesn’t mean that the average girl can’t pull off the look. “They’re a good place to start [with fancier lingerie]. Anyone who tries them will see that they’re very wearable.”
She also applied the same goal of wearable luxury to her fragrances (Dita Von Teese and Rouge). She designed the former after her boyfriend told her that her signature scent was also the one his mother wore; the latter is a sweeter scent that, she says, is fun for daytime.
The star gave us a glimpse into her backstage routine at her latest show, Strip Strip Hooray!, including her stunning collection of Christian Louboutins and her makeup routine. Vital to the performance: spritzing her fragrance “from the back of the knees down” since her feet are at about face height with the audience.
“And I can see strategic reasons for doing that in everyday life, if you know what I mean!” Von Teese says with a laugh — bringing it all back to the lingerie.
Von Teese’s intimate apparel will range from $25-$45 and her fragrance starts at $20. Check out both when they debut on HSN on March 17.
Sensuous, feminine, intoxicating: The elegant Queen of Burlesque Dita Von Teese embodies femininity like no other woman. Seductive, self-assured and graceful: the sheer sensuality of Dita Von Teese expresses itself in new facets. With her third fragrance FleurTeese, the international style icon embraces her coquettish, romantic side.
FleurTeese is a passionate bouquet, inspired by lush but delicate blossoms and idyllic floral gardens. Dita Von Teese has created this romantic eau de toilette that beautifully captures the spirit of her classic Hollywood style. Delicate like her skin, glamorous like her appearance and beguiling like the lady herself, FleurTeese is an enthralling new spring fragrance that calls to mind the playful pin-up girl.
FleurTeese – the fragrance
At the start, the creamy scented, opulent Casablanca lily flirts with sensuous Sambac jasmine petals, and refreshes with a sparkling burst of bergamot notes. The delicate top note evokes the enchanting moment of the first flirtation, the first glance, the first touch.
At the heart of FleurTeese is a bouquet of pure blossoms, a delicate blend of elegant accords of purple lilac combined with subtle iris, complimented by a warm shade of heliotrope flower. These essences from Dita Von Teese’s favorite flowers not only represent the ultimate femininity of the burlesque dancer, but also the sensual emotions of spring.
The seductive base note of FleurTeese combines rare sandalwood and cedar wood with seductive musk, giving the fragrance depth and richness. This fragrance made from luxurious flowers and smooth wood instantly radiates fresh lightness and playful romance with a flirtatious charm. Coquettish like Dita Von Teese herself, FleurTeese is a hypnotic fragrance that encourages women to embrace their romantic and flirtatious femininity in a unique and memorable way.
FleurTeese – the bottle
The FleurTeese bottle represents the fresh romance of the fragrance in a glamorous design. The clear glass-faceted bottle elegantly showcases the lilac-colored scent.
Reflecting the color palette of the fragrant flowers in the scent, the pastel and platinum color scheme epitomizes romance. A tassel with silvery pearl accent in the color of the filigree cap embraces the neck of the bottle. This sophisticated touch evokes the spirit of the fragrance and the burlesque queen herself.
FleurTeese is the fascinatingly light eau de toilette variation by Dita Von Teese – romantic, sensuous, and perfect for flirtation in the springtime.
FleurTeese is available from the middle of March 2013 in specialist perfume shops.

Burlesque star, style icon, and fashion muse Dita Von Teese is no stranger to designing lingerie or beauty—but this time she’s bringing her creations to the masses via HSN. Her underpinnings collection ($25–$45) and two fragrances ($20–$75) will launch on the home shopping site on April 23. Expect lingerie that gives a nod to the 1950s with ultra-femme details like velvet ribbons, eyelash lace trim and control mesh. Before the goods become available, we spoke with the humble star about her inspirations, DIY beauty, and how to be a true sex symbol.
ELLE: What inspired your lingerie for HSN?
Dita Von Teese: Well, I’ve been a long-time collector of vintage. I have a long-standing affection for lingerie, but also as most people know, retro style. And I really wanted to use the knowledge that I have from my first career when I was 15. I worked at a lingerie store as a bra-fitter and buyer. For this collection, I wanted to bring together fit, function, and affordability with touches of glamour and retro style.
ELLE: What makes your designs both functional and fashionable?
DVT: I’ve always loved having beautiful lingerie to wear in my every day life, and I’ve never saved beautiful lingerie just for seduction purposes or for when someone else is gonna see it. So it was really important to me to make these pieces work well under clothing and give good shaping. They are pieces that you can wear comfortably, so you’re not compromising beauty and glamour for fit and function.
DVT: There are definitely a lot of pieces in the collection that I think you could definitely wear underneath a sheer blouse or with the top peeking out of a suit. I’ve always loved little hints of what’s underneath, without showing too much. It’s a way of being seductive but elegant at the same time.
ELLE: What influenced your fragrances?
DVT: This funny thing happened to me a few years ago when I was first approached to do my own scent. I had been wearing the same perfume for about almost 20 years, Houbigant Quelques Fleurs. It’s a very old perfume house, very top dollar. I was dating a French man at the time. He confessed to me three weeks into our relationship that his mother wore the same perfume as me, so I had to change mine. I could’ve gotten rid of the man, but I chose instead to change the perfume. At the same time, I was approached to make my own, so I really got involved in the process. I was living in Paris, and working closely with the fragrance house to create something really unique and special that I could call my own signature perfume. It needed to have an air of high sophistication and glamour. [For HSN], I wanted to get to offer an affordable product in a beautiful bottle that still has that element that still feels expensive. It took a lot of time, focus, and ambition to get to the point where I believed that the perfume could replace my $300 perfume.
DVT: As a little girl growing up in a small farming town in Michigan, my idols were women like Marlene Dietrich and Rita Hayworth. I did a lot of research about what kinds of perfume these women wore. A lot of modern celebrity fragrances have sweetness, vanilla, fruit, and freshness. I wanted mine to have that feel of sophistication and glamour of a different time, but without smelling like, old-fashioned or like your grandmother’s perfume.
ELLE: What drew you to team up with HSN?
DVT: I’m drawn to it because my whole career and every aspect of it is about do-it-yourself glamour. I do not run with an entourage of makeup stylists, and I don’t have someone dictating to me what is the right thing to wear. I don’t have anyone advising me. Every one of my products—my lingerie, my perfume, and everything that I do beauty-related with regard to building my burlesque shows—is just me. And I’m really into the motto: I can do it, you can do it. It’s not magic, you just have to have the ambition, patience, and desire to create it yourself. It has a special meaning to be able to offer these kind of products at an affordable price to other women that want to have glamour in their everyday lives.
The New Perfume Collection ‘Rouge’ of Dita Von Teese is then out since November 2012.
The perfume contains accords of orange, bergamot, pink pepper, smoked Lapsang Souchong tea, magnolia, woody tones and raw amber, among others. The design of the bottle reminiscent of a luxury jewelry in ruby color and of perfume bottles from the 20s and the 30s.
